Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church is seeking a Pastor to lead our congregation in teaching and worship of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Preaching and teaching is the pastor’s main responsibility and is to be done with thorough preparation and guided by the Holy Spirit. The Pastor is also responsible for the care and nurture of the St. Paul congregation’s spiritual life, the care of the sick and shut-in, visiting members in sickness, crisis and loss of loved ones. The pastor is responsible for the administration of church ordinances and any other congregational or spiritual needs.

Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church has been in the San Jose community for 62 years. In our history we have had two pastors (the late Reverend J.D. Houston and Reverend York Hayes). The church was established in 1945 and incorporated in 1955.

The Pastor is the officer of the church and worship leader. In addition to being pastoring, you would be expected to represent the church in its various affiliations (Local, State and National Baptist Convention, Inc.) with budgetary provisions for expenses made. The Pastor is expected to maintain a minimum of 10-12 business hours per week. The pastor is accountable to be the Saint Paul congregation. Develop relationships and collaborate with other churches, community leaders & other organizations.

Pastor’s Role

The Pastor of Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church has the primary responsibility of preaching and teaching, leading a team-based ministry model, communicating the vision for the church and shepherding the congregation

Ministry Tasks

Preaching and Teaching

  • Leads ministerial staff in expository preaching and teaching under the guidance of the Holy Spirit
  • Devote a minimum of 8 hours per week toward the preparation of preaching and teaching
  • Equip, prepare and encourages ministers to preach and teach
  • Teach and lead weekly Bible Study
  • Works with the Minister of Music in the planning of Worship Services

 

Staff and Administrative Leadership

  • Promotes a team-based ministry and works with all ministries of the Church to communicate the vision for the church.
  • Provides oversight and leadership for all ministries
  • Leads monthly business meetings
  • Meets regularly with leadership of the church and provides direction and vision

 

Shepherding and General Pastoral Duties

  • Has the primary shepherding focus of the members
  • Communicates and assigns a plan for the Deacons to communicate and care for church membership
  • Responsible for baptisms, weddings, funerals and other services at the church
  • Will pursue professional development opportunities
  • Work to grow the church spiritually and in membership

 

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 5-8 years of preaching and teaching experience
  • Must be able to show experience leading people in ministry
  • Bachelor’s in Theology preferred (but not required)
  • Must be licensed and ordained as a Baptist minister with a clear understanding of Baptist doctrine and articles of faith
  • Must be able to pass a background check
